Socio-spatial monitoring
Socio-spatial monitoring in the context of population growth and structural densification
Since the turn of the millennium, the city of Zurich has been confronted with strong population growth, which has permanently changed the composition of the resident population. In the coming years and decades, further significant growth and dynamic structural development are expected, which will mainly take place through densification in existing buildings. In this context, the present socio-spatial monitoring of the city administration serves as an important basis for promoting socially acceptable internal development and continuing to support a social mix of the population.
With the monitoring, a variety of statistical bases are created on a small-scale level – on the one hand, these provide an overview of the socio-economic and demographic composition of the population of Zurich and, on the other hand, provide clues for future structural development. The newly prepared and visualized statistical information also supports the City of Zurich in demanding and enforcing the most socially acceptable implementation of structural transformation processes possible – especially in areas that are particularly sensitive to change due to their population composition.
