Socially acceptable internal development
The future development of the city of Zurich will take place primarily within the existing construction areas. Where renewal and densification will take place in the future, people are already living and working today. This accentuates questions of socially acceptable internal development. Without housing policy measures, social displacement and segregation processes must be expected. It is also necessary to deal with a higher density of use and with increased competition for use in public and semi-public space. Both the structural densification and the increase in population have an impact on the social fabric and coexistence in the districts.
The challenge is therefore to make urban internal development socially acceptable. The social mix and social cohesion should endure in the further process of densification and renewal of the city of Zurich .
