Zoning and approval procedures
With the BZO 2016 Building and Zoning Regulations, industrial and commercial zones (IG) continued to be eliminated in the city of Zurich (municipal council resolution of 30.11.2016; Appeals pending). At the same time, an upper limit for the use of services was introduced for all relevant zones. This secures areas for production facilities. In order to meet the requirements of modern companies, however, the building permit authority adapted its practical guidelines at the end of March 2018. This means that a higher proportion of non-directly production-related operating functions is possible in production companies than before.
Commercial building on the Koch site
In addition to a housing estate, around 20,000 square metres of space for commercial use are to be created on the Koch site. Urban interests in areas of SBB main workshops and Rheinmetall Air Defence
The areas of SBB's main workshops in Zurich-West and Rheinmetall Air Defence in Zurich-North are not owned by the city. These areas, which are in a state of upheaval, should be available for commercial-industrial use that makes sense in terms of economic policy, long-term and sustainable commercial-industrial use. The city has been in a constructive exchange with both site owners for some time and is contributing its economic policy and other interests to the further development of the site.
