Christmas Markets
Christmas markets in Zurich
In the city of Zurich, various Christmas markets are organized by private individuals every year. They are an important addition to the existing retail and entertainment offer and contribute to the attractiveness of the city.
For Christmas markets on the Münsterhof and on the Sechseläutenplatz, the city council has issued guidelines due to the size and importance of these two squares. They include substantive and design criteria for the assessment of applications and the procedure for granting authorisation. Applications for the Christmas markets on Sechseläutenplatz and Münsterhof have been and will be examined on the basis of the guidelines. For the existing Christmas markets, the quality criteria listed in the guidelines apply as a recommendation.
Christmas market at the Münsterhof
The Münsterhof is one of the central squares in Zurich's city centre. With its historic facades and important buildings such as the Fraumünsterkirche, it is a special place.
The Christmas market "From Zurich for Zurich" of the Association of Zurich Special Shops was the first Christmas market on the newly designed Münsterhof. The general licence for its sponsorship expires at the end of 2023. For this reason, a new call for tenders will be issued for the implementation from 2024. Documents and information on the invitation to tender Christmas Market Münsterhof can be found here from March 2023.
Christmas market on Sechseläutenplatz
At 14,200m2 , Sechseläutenplatz is one of the largest inner-city squares in Switzerland. With its location on Lake Zurich, the adjacent opera house and the floor made of Vals quartzite, it has an unmistakable character.
