Living in the neighbourhood
The quarter is an important living space for new arrivals as well as for the population that has been living here for some time. This is where you decide whether you feel comfortable and "at home" in Zurich.
Welcome events
For newcomers, the Wohquartier is a first, important place to settle in and orient themselves in the new city. This is where everyday life takes place, where you get to know neighbours and make contacts. All this is important to feel "at home".
It is advantageous if newcomers are welcomed from the very first moment and receive support for "finding their way around" by the population who have been living in the district for some time. Welcome events take place in most of Zurich's districts. More information can be obtained from the municipal district coordination and the neighbourhood associations.
In addition , foreign immigrants receive a welcome envelope in the district office with important information about life in the city of Zurich. The Integration Promotion invites them to a city-wide welcome event in the Stadthaus .
Promoting coexistence
In order to promote coexistence in the districts, the population has a very diverse range of opportunities for encounters and participation.
Social space monitoring
The individual districts of Zurich are subject to constant and diverse change. Zurich Urban Development conducts population surveys for this purpose. It supplements this with objective statistical data on social monitoring. The social space monitoring gives interested parties an overview of the different characters and developments of the individual Zurich districts.
New forms of networking
Following the additional evaluation of the 2011 population survey on social networking in the city of Zurich, the IF commissioned the Institute for Systemic Management and Public Governance at the University of St. Gallen with a qualitative study on new forms of networking.
