Housing policy dialogue
The launch of a housing policy dialogue is one of the measures adopted by the Federal Council on 15 May 2013 in the run-up to the vote on the mass immigration initiative. Cities and cantons in which problems on the housing market – in particular a shortage of supply in view of very high demand, and the associated price increases – are particularly noticeable. The working group, which has been in existence since 2013, is headed by the Director of the Federal Housing Office (BWO). In regular meetings, it assesses the situation on the housing market in Switzerland and discusses specific topics at the political level, such as tenancy law or parliamentary initiatives to change the obligation to form and the right of first refusal. Since the beginning, the City of Zurich has been represented in the working group by the Director of Urban Development.
