Kindergarten
Kindergarten for the school year 2021/22 starts on Monday 23rd of August 2021 for children born between 1st of August 2016 and 31st of July 2017.
Kindergarten has been compulsory in Zürich since 2008 and there are currently about 4,600 attending the free lessons.
Entering Kindergarten is a very important step in the life of a child. In Kindergarten children learn with all their senses. It is a smooth transition from learning to play to learning by playing. In additional to individual and group playing, teachers organize lessons which are based on the Cantonal curriculum.
Deadline
Children that reach their 4th birthday before the cut off dates mentioned below will attend Kindergarten the following year.
Within the schoolyear 2019/20 there is no more possibility to make an earl admission to Kindergarten.
In the city of Zürich all parents of children with a date of birth before the cut off date will receive a Kindergarten registration form. The registration with further information from the local school administration will be sent to the parents by the end of February. The Kindergarten assignments are sent by mid-June.

Timetable
Block schedule
5 mornings per week (1st and 2nd year of kindergarten)
Drop-off time: 8.15 - 8.35 a.m.
Lessons: 8.35 - 11.55 a.m.
2 afternoons per week (only 2nd year of kindergarten)
Drop-off time: 1.40 p.m. - 1.50 p.m.
Lessons: 1.50 p.m. - 3.20 p.m.
