The city of Zurich has developed successfully in recent years, and its population has been growing continuously since the turn of the millennium. This prosperity was promoted by a favourable economic situation, which proved to be relatively stable even in the global crisis. At the same time, the city pursued various programmes for sustainable urban development – for example with regard to the resource-conserving use of energy, housing policy or mobility.

The successful development of the city is to continue in the future – despite an increasingly difficult environment. On this basis, the city council has developed new strategies that have been available since March 2015. In the "Strategies Zurich 2035", the city council addresses central challenges in eight fields of action and identifies possible solutions.

With the "Strategies Zurich 2035", there is a cross-departmental report in which the city council shows its long-term perspectives and strategies for urban development.The strategies serve to be able to approach the requirements of the future in a better coordinated and more effective manner.
