The cooperation between Zurich and Sarajevo takes place as part of the SECO-funded "Urban Transformation Project Sarajevo" and goes back to a reception of the mayor of Sarajevo by the mayor of Zurich in 2017 in Zurich.

This cooperation promotes political dialogue, knowledge sharing and cooperation on innovative and urban development projects in a proactive and sustainable way. Due to its expertise in the field of urban development and planning, the City of Zurich acts as a project partner for competence development and knowledge transfer.

The aim of this cooperation is to contribute to the modernisation of the system of integrated urban planning in the canton and the city of Sarajevo and to create better conditions for sustainable socio-economic development. Well-done urban planning, taking into account the needs of different population groups and different interest groups, helps to create the conditions for broader social prosperity and a better livelihood.
