The last report published in January 2013 entitled "Development of trade in the city of Zurich from 1998 to 2008" shed light on the development on the basis of the business censuses. The new report is an inventory, for a time series the period of the statent figures available since 2011 is still too short. Due to the change of method from the farm census to STATENT, the figures cannot be compared. 

In 2013, there were 14,060 commercial enterprises in the city of Zurich (34 percent of all companies) with 74,948 employees (16 percent of all employees in the city). Within the trade, the audience-oriented share, which includes gastronomy, retail and neighbourhood-related services, is slightly higher than the manufacturing share (with the categories industry and production, wholesale and construction). Businesses of the public-oriented industry can be found mainly in the city center as well as in neighborhood centers. Workplaces in the manufacturing industry are somewhat more evenly distributed across the city than public-oriented companies. In addition to the city center, the district 4, the Seefeld also in the Binz, in Leutschenbach and Altstetten can be found.
