By resolution of 12 July 2017, the City Council of Zurich put language funding on a new basis as of 2019. The revised concept comprises four funding areas and complements existing German courses elsewhere. 

The first "Concept for the municipal co-financing of German courses for foreign-language adults" came into force in 2009 and has since formed the basis of the city's language promotion.
