An eventful year is coming to an end. Whether temporary city cooperations, contributions to international cooperation projects or the strengthening of political exchange in a regional and national context – after two years of pandemic-related restrictions, the work of the Foreign Affairs team also benefited from the fact that exchange no longer had to take place only online. This year, for example, the city of Zurich was once again able to receive delegations from other cities and exchange views on key urban development topics such as densification, mobility and the implementation of the environmental strategy. After being postponed twice due to the pandemic, the seventh edition of the «Zurich meets...» event series could finally be held this year as part of Berlin Science Week. Together with the Canton of Zurich, Zurich Tourism and the Zurich universities, the scientific, touristic, cultural and political dialogue between Zurich and Berlin was intensified. An important focus this year was on support for Ukraine in the wake of the Russian war of aggression. Contributions totaling one million Swiss francs were made as part of humanitarian aid. Furthermore, several deliveries of relief materials were made possible by various city departments. In October 2022, in cooperation with the Sport Office, a group of schoolchildren from Vinnytsia were given the opportunity to spend a week's vacation at the Fiesch sports camp as a break from the war. In the hope that 2023 will be a more peaceful year, the Foreign Affairs team wishes you happy holidays season and a happy new year.
