Swiss flags of another type and visits to the countryside

"NEXPO – the new Expo", the initiative of the ten largest Swiss cities for a new Expo, advances. The NEXPLORER online survey shows what moves us as a society and which topics should shape the next national exhibition. On the occasion of the 1st of August, the interim results of the ten NEXPO founding cities, including the City of Zurich, were hoisted as flags. Videos

NEXPO is not only present in cities: as part of NEXPO SITE VISITS, a series of excursions and discussions throughout Switzerland, NEXPO visited the village of Mathon at the foot of the Piz Beverin (GR). With a concert and an exhibition, NEXPO created a place of encounter for local and international actors. On 10 September, NEXPO invites the public to the next SITE VISIT in the moorland of Gais (AR).

Zurich launches cooperations with Mbeya and Cox's Bazar

Cities have a strategic role in developing sustainable food systems and promoting healthy, environmentally friendly diets. Global urbanization is contributing to changing diets and challenges to sustainable growth. This is particularly evident in fast-growing secondary cities in Asia and Africa.

The cities of Mbeya in Tanzania and Cox's Bazar in Bangladesh have high rates of malnutrition and high levels of food insecurity. They have few resources in terms of supporting adequate access to food and sustainable and healthy diets, especially for the urban poor. Within the framework of its international development cooperation, the City of Zurich supports the cities of Mbeya and Cox's Bazar in building urban food systems that are environmentally friendly, economically viable and accessible to all.

Bern draws inspiration from Zurich
 

In the wake of the pandemic, the City of Bern launched the project "Perspektive Detailhandel Innenstadt" (Perspectives for the Retail Trade in the City Centre) at the beginning of July on the initiative of the Mayor Alec von Graffenried. This project examines how the internet can be better used for small businesses. In addition, delivery services and pick-up stations for shopping are to be set up and bureaucratic hurdles for small businesses are to be removed.

The project is being supported by the consulting firm Synergo. Synergo had already developed the Zurich Urban Development project "City of the Future: Commerce in Transition" in cooperation with the Zurich Urban Development. As there are many parallels between the two city centres and they can benefit from a lot of know-how, the results from Zurich offer a lot of potential for the city of Bern.
