City cooperation Zurich-Tyros: Bike rental opening in Tyros and plans for the future
 

Since 2017, the City of Zurich has been cooperating with the southern Lebanese port city of Tyros. As a third partner, UN-Habitat supports the implementation of the cooperation on site. The temporary partnership focuses on knowledge sharing between the two cities on issues of sustainable mobility and refugee reception. In early February 2021, representatives of the two partner cities and UN-Habitat - including the mayor of Zurich and the mayor of Tyros - met for a one-day virtual workshop. Despite the severe political, economic and health crisis in Lebanon and the resulting delays in some areas of cooperation, a first joint project was successfully implemented. On April 20, the mayor of Tyros, Hassan Dbouk, together with representatives of UN-Habitat and residents of Tyros, opened two bicycle rentals. These aim to improve the traffic situation in Tyros and make it easier for the parts of the population that do not own cars to access the city center.

«NEXPO» - First appearance of the new management

«NEXPO - the new Expo » is an initiative of the ten largest Swiss cities for the next national exhibition. It breaks new ground and aims to encompass the whole of Switzerland and all language regions. It connects cultural initiatives, builds bridges between urban centers and the periphery, forms a Swiss-wide network and creates meeting places.

After a successful launch, NEXPO is entering the next stage with an artistic and commercial management. Fredi Fischli, Niels Olsen and Christina Hanke are now preparing the NEXPO's promotion as the next national exhibition.

On May 10, 2021, the new management invited guests, including the NEXPO Association President Corine Mauch as well as the public to discuss its program. The event kicked off the new «SITE VISIT» series of events, a journey to future NEXPO venues. It was broadcasted from the former Le Plaza cinema in Geneva.

International Development Cooperation – New Scheme, Details on Module B (Project Contributions)

The new «Regulation on the International Development Cooperation» came into force as from beginning of April 2021. The International Development Cooperation scheme of the City of Zurich entails three modules: Module A (programme contributions to Zurich-based NGOs), Module B (project contributions to Swiss NGOs) und Module C (city-to-city cooperations).

Details on Module B: 2021 is a transitional year regarding the project contributions. In the future, project contributions will be allocated on a forward-looking base. For project contributions regarding the year 2022, the submission deadline will be in the last quarter of 2021. More details are published on the website of Foreign Affairs during the summer.
